After withdrawing from the European commercial vehicle workshop network Alltrucks, the Friedrichshafen-based supplier ZF is focusing on its own business for commercial vehicle operations. As reported, Alltrucks announced in early June 2025 the withdrawal of the group from the joint venture initiated in 2013 with Knorr-Bremse and Bosch to support cross-brand maintenance of commercial vehicles. However, ZF is not leaving the commercial vehicle business. At the same time, the mobility expert is promoting its own offering for independent maintenance of commercial vehicles, trailers, and buses, which was introduced in 2022 under the name ZF [pro]Service – and is expanding the portfolio in parallel with technological developments.
To ensure "efficient and high-quality maintenance," the ZF Aftermarket business unit is, according to its own statements, cooperating with the best commercial vehicle workshops worldwide with its ZF [pro]Service concept. The program includes modern technical support and access to the supplier's global distribution network.
Everything under one roof for independent workshops
The service offers itself to commercial vehicle workshops as a cross-brand concept, providing a comprehensive offering to "take advantage of the growing commercial vehicle market opportunities." A special advantage for ZF [pro]Service partners also lies in direct contact with ZF Aftermarket experts and its digital support. Additionally, the program includes further support to optimize service quality. The press release states:
"Workshop concepts are particularly important for independent commercial vehicle operations to, for example, gain access to the latest truck and bus models' technical data and repair information or to attract and professionally serve large customers."
Quality Assurance
Aleksander Rabinovitch, Head of Business Line Commercial Vehicles at ZF Aftermarket, also emphasizes the dependence on strong partners to be able to meet modern technical challenges and remain competitive. Commercial vehicle operations can benefit as partners not only from the complete offering of "the world's largest supplier in the commercial vehicle industry":
"We support workshops with current technologies, diagnostic solutions, training, and comprehensive services. This prepares
them optimally for the future and allows them to fully exploit their potential."
The requirements for partners are high. ZF wants to win the best commercial vehicle workshops "with clear customer orientation" for itself. Therefore, the operations must undergo an initial assessment based on strict criteria before being admitted to the network. And even afterwards, regular interim evaluations are part of the concept to ensure the continued quality of services. According to the information, more than 3,100 workshops in 89 countries are currently connected to the ZF [pro]Service concept.
Unique Offering
According to ZF, the ZF [pro]Service is aimed at increasing the functionality of truck, trailer, and bus fleets with highly modern means. High-quality maintenance is ensured through cooperation with equally qualified commercial vehicle workshops. With an expert like ZF behind them, which has a comprehensive range of products and services, operations can improve vehicle safety, as well as their own operational efficiency and service quality – ultimately optimizing processes with shorter installation times and extended vehicle operating times, for example.
Among the plethora of advantages associated with being part of one of the world's most significant supplier corporations are, in addition to practical support in everyday workshop life, specialized training in the 46 centers of the ZF [pro] Academy, regular visits by ZF experts, a network of call centers in 36 countries in the respective national language, and access to diagnostic tools for precise error detection and repair. The offer is continually being expanded:
"In the future, workshop partners can also benefit from ZF's telematics and digital solutions, which are embedded in their own ecosystem for preventive maintenance and enable early problem detection,"
reports ZF. This is in addition to the original spare parts from ZF Aftermarket, available through the worldwide dealer network – "strategically conveniently located near the workshops," ensuring high availability and fast turnaround times. The parts portfolio required for this, which the provider states already covers
the majority of daily workshop needs for bus, trailer, and truck repairs, is continuously supplemented.
ZF Scan: Diagnostic tools unified under one name
In addition to the listed service offering for commercial vehicle companies, the mobility corporation from Lake Constance now offers its diagnostic solutions under a new name: ZF Scan unites the previous ZF solutions ZF Testman and the Original System Diagnostics previously offered under the Wabco brand. According to statements, it is a "user-friendly diagnostic platform for commercial vehicles, buses, trailers, and off-highway applications."
With the development, all ZF components, including transmissions, brake and chassis control systems, can be maintained via a single interface (DCI; Data Center Interconnect Interface). Additionally, through the application of SUMS (Software Update Management System), regulations regarding data security for software updates according to UNECE 156 and the cybersecurity requirements according to UNECE 155 are also complied with.
ZF MultiScan Multibrand Diagnostics
Among other new diagnostic products at ZF is ZF MultiScan. Specialized software for different vehicle segments is available for the solution. The MultiScan Trailer and MultiScan Truck & Bus variants are particularly tailored to commercial vehicle operations.
The two new solutions, ZF Scan and ZF Multiscan, are part of the supplier's new ZF [pro] Diagnostic ecosystem.
Alltrucks Farewell
The group mentions the withdrawal from the Alltrucks workshop concept in a sentence in passing. This is followed by the statement that the large product offering from ZF [pro] Service for buses, trailers, and trucks, along with comprehensive services, offers workshops services "from a single source" with great added value, as they can thus make the technical expertise of the mobility specialist their own. Rabinovitch adds:
"Our partner workshops are pioneers in maintaining advanced technologies, like ZF's modular brake platform mBSP XBS, and seize the great opportunities the aftermarket offers in the commercial vehicle sector."
The services provided by ZF for Alltrucks member operations, according to information, will still be fully usable during a
short transition period.
ZF [pro]Service for growing commercial vehicle market
More than a year ago, the mobility specialist, which operates a similar service for the passenger car segment under the name ZF [pro]Tech, had already drawn attention to the "growing commercial vehicle market" not only concerning trucks but also in parcel services and bus companies – and the attractive possibilities that opened up for commercial vehicle operations. Here, the service for commercial vehicle workshops, which was continued under the new name in 2022, can assist:
"ZF [pro]Service makes the entire offering of the world's largest commercial vehicle supplier accessible to workshops,"
it said in the press release. As part of the services, access to repair and maintenance information, digital management of fleet customers, and identification of revenue opportunities for the workshop business were mentioned, among others.
The new name united the previously parallel concepts ZF Service Point, the commercial vehicle variant of ZF[pro]Tech and Wabco Service Partner. ZF presented itself as a strong partner for new member workshops, as particularly in the commercial vehicle sector, according to the argument, workshops are not only reliant on reliable spare part supply in the face of the "rapid progress in vehicle technology":
"For a successful repair process, further prerequisites must be met, such as up-to-date repair and maintenance information (RMI), access to data from the vehicle through appropriate diagnostic devices, current training on new technologies, and much more."
The technology corporation ZF (Zahnradfabrik) Friedrichshafen develops and manufactures products and systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and industrial technology. Founded in 1921, the company, which employed around 161,600 people worldwide in 2024 and generated sales of 41.4 billion euros, primarily supplies automotive manufacturers, mobility providers, and companies involved in vehicle electrification. An example in the field of New Mobility is the electric central drive CeTrax. In addition, the portfolio also includes products for construction and agricultural machinery, wind power, shipping, rail technology, and testing
