Thermo King presented a new operating mode for the Advancer trailer refrigeration units in Brussels on August 26, 2025. The feature named Ecomode is said by the company to provide a better balance between fuel efficiency and temperature regulation.

Fuel savings

The Ecomode complements the existing settings of continuous operation and CycleSentry. The new mode is said to reduce fuel consumption by up to 50 percent compared with continuous operation. At the same time, it provides more precise temperature control than the

start-stop CycleSentry mode, Thermo King says.

How it works and applications

In Ecomode, the deviation from the setpoint temperature is limited. In addition, a sequential airflow provides protection for the transported cargo. The mode is particularly suitable for shipments that require a stable, but not highly precise, temperature control.

Impact on operating costs and cargo safety

The promise is: Transport companies can use Ecomode to reduce their operating costs while ensuring the safety and integrity of the cargo. In addition, applicable regulations

are to be complied with.

“At Thermo King, we are continually working on innovations to help our customers reduce fuel consumption without risking valuable freight. The ECOmode mode expands the features that our customers already appreciate in the Advancer line, such as industry-leading cooling performance, temperature recovery and cooling capacity—and that with full transparency regarding fuel level and consumption,” says Colm O’Grady, Trailer Product Manager at Thermo King. “We introduced ECOmode to give fleet managers more flexibility and control and to help

them reduce their operating costs.”

Transparency through Telematics

All machines in the Advancer line provide information on fuel level and consumption both directly on the unit and via the Telematics platform TracKing. This is standard on every machine and provides a two-way connection for a period of two years.

Introduction and Availability

Starting September 2025, ECOmode will be standard in all new Advancer trailer machines. In addition, the function is available as a software update via the dealer network, according to Thermo
