The secure integration of mobile robotics systems such as AGVs, AGVs, and AMRs increasingly presents operators with complex challenges. Together with Forum-FTS and the "FTS Safety" working group of the VDI, TÜV Süd has now published a new guide titled "Responsible Procurement of Mobile Robotics." It aims to assist operators in procuring safe and compliant systems, as reported by a press release dated June 10.

The guide is aimed at

companies that wish to integrate driverless transport systems into their logistics or production processes. The focus is on considering safety, regulatory, and operational requirements – from risk assessment to the creation of specifications and up to awarding contracts and commissioning.

Expertise in Testing and Certification

According to the press release, TÜV Süd, as a notified body for the Machinery Directive and the new Machinery Regulation, has significantly contributed to the

development. The experts bring their experience in testing and certification of machines and systems as well as from international standardization work. The guide explains, among other things, the role that declarations of conformity, technical documentation, and independent certificates play in the procurement process – and what operators should particularly watch for with foreign manufacturers.

Numerous practical tips aim to support companies in systematically verifying whether a system meets the requirements

at the operational site. Checklists are intended to help with the creation of specifications and requirement documents as well as with the evaluation of incoming offers. The guide is supplemented with further recommendations for practical on-site testing and for selecting suitable providers.

TÜV Süd is also a member of the German Robotics Association (DRV) and actively engages there for the further development of safe robotics applications in industry and logistics.
