Humanoid robots are currently still very expensive, and initial application possibilities need to be identified in many places. The Cologne-based motion plastics specialist Igus now aims to change that: According to a press release, the company is delivering a cost-effective
humanoid robot named "Iggy Rob," which, thanks to its two arms and a stable, wheel-driven base, enables a variety of applications.
"The world is made for humans, which is why the potential for humanoid robots is enormous," explains Alexander Mühlens,
Head of the Low Cost Automation Business Unit at Igus.
The Iggy Rob is about 1.70 meters tall and, according to Igus, can move for eight hours on a single battery charge. Equipped with a smile, he greets his colleagues
with two “ReBeL Cobot” arms and two bionic hands. Equipped with a LiDAR sensor and 3D cameras for object detection, the robot navigates its environment, says Igus. The basis of Iggy Rob is the autonomous mobile robot (AMR) "ReBeL Move."
