The Danish retail company Jysk is expanding in Southern Europe and North Africa. For this reason, the furnishing retailer will establish a distribution center in Almenara (Castellón, Spain), which will also house the new headquarters of Jysk for Spain and Portugal, communicated AR Racking on June 5 in a press release. This provider, which belongs to the Grupo Arania, a major industrial group, received the order to supply the necessary storage systems for it.
The new logistics center is located on a 274,000 square meter
plot and will feature two high-bay racks in silo construction with a capacity for 182,500 pallet spaces. For handling, 20 rack operating devices are planned. AR Racking is responsible for the development, manufacturing, and installation of this storage solution. This is intended to ensure high capacity, operational efficiency, and reliability in the long term.
In addition to the pallet warehouses, the center will also have an automatic shuttle compact warehouse with more than 200,000 container spaces, into which advanced robotic technology for order picking and
automatic handling of shelves and containers is integrated.
The material flow system of the warehouse will be developed by the technology provider Körber, which is responsible for the integration of an automated system. This is to ensure a synchronized and traceable product flow throughout the entire logistics process.
“With this project, we expand our experience with large automated logistics centers and establish AR Racking as a strategic partner in the field of storage solutions for leading international companies,” states the sales management of AR Racking.
Approximately 250 new jobs will be created at this Jysk logistics center. The building will receive a LEED Gold certification, including the installation of solar cells to cover part of the energy needs of the complex.
The facility is expected to be fully operational by 2028. According to AR Racking, it is of fundamental importance for the growth of Jysk in markets like Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Until then, the furnishing retailer will continue to operate from its rented logistics center in Cheste in Valencia.
