The Rewe Group will invest 600 million euros in the modernization of the logistics center in Wiener Neudorf in the coming years. According to a press release dated July 2, this marks the largest single investment by a private company in Lower Austria to date. In the future, around 2,500 locations will be supplied – especially in Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland. Construction will start in the second quarter of 2026.

According to the Rewe Group, the site will be transformed into a sustainable, innovative logistics center with modern storage technologies on existing land by 2030. From there, the company will supply its "BILLA",

"BILLA PLUS", "BIPA", and "ADEG" stores as well as cooperation partners such as gas station shops with several tens of thousands of products from the dry range of the product palette comprising a total of around 100,000 items throughout Austria. The new logistics center aims to consolidate all goods traffic of the site in one building. The Rewe Group intends to improve the security of supply and enhance economic and ecological efficiency across the entire supply chain.

Isabella Handler, overall project manager at Rewe International AG, emphasized the importance of technological implementation:

“From the very beginning, our goal was to create a future-oriented logistics

platform that combines efficiency, sustainability, and security of supply. By consolidating logistics in Wiener Neudorf, we are simultaneously setting the highest standards in the digitization and automation of trade logistics.”

Exclusively on already developed land, the logistics center will become the new centerpiece of Rewe logistics in Austria by 2030. The food retailer describes the center as a flagship project for its logistics strategy 2030.

On 150,000 square meters in Wiener Neudorf, thanks to a hybrid logistics strategy, almost one-third of all goods deliveries in Austria will be handled in the future. The structures previously spread across several buildings will be combined into a

central high-performance building: Through detailed advance planning using data analysis, robotics technology in order picking, and a combination of manual, semi-automated, and fully automated systems, more goods can be delivered in a shorter time and space-saving manner in the future. This also includes a fully automated high-bay warehouse with approximately 87,000 pallet spaces and a delivery capacity of approximately 116 million order units per year.

The site will have its own recycling sorting center for sustainable recovery and circular economy. A 12,500 square meter photovoltaic area, in the currently planned first expansion phase, will cover about 20 percent of the annual energy needs of
