The electrical wholesaler Fega & Schmitt recently commissioned its new highly automated intralogistics system at the logistics site in Heilsbronn. The electrical wholesaler thereby achieves shorter lead times and makes the flow of goods more efficient, as TGW Group wrote in a press release on September 1.

Fega & Schmitt supplies crafts, specialist trades and industry with a broad range of products and services. As part of the Würth Group, the company operates 61 branches nationwide and achieved revenue of €985 million in

2024.

Due to a growth trajectory and the continuous development of the company in the areas of warehouse logistics, innovation and digitalization, Fega & Schmitt decided to invest in a highly automated shuttle system from TGW Logistics. With this, the company, according to TGW Logistics, aimed to expand the service level for its partners in crafts, facilities and industry as well as for its suppliers in a demand-oriented manner. The material flow was completely redesigned—from goods receipt through storage, picking and packaging to

shipping. The result, according to the intralogistics provider, is an efficiency gain through lean processes, short lead times and an improved maintenance concept.

The core of the solution is a six-lane shuttle warehouse with 160,000 storage locations. A network of “KingDrive” conveying technology connects the individual areas of the fulfillment center. Also part of the project are packing workstations, a shipping sorter, and the Warehouse Control System (WCS), which controls and monitors all processes.

“The distribution center for Fega & Schmitt is the

third collaboration with a Würth Group company,” said Martin Waldenberger, CSO of the Customer Unit Central Europe at TGW Logistics. “Our experts have already taken future expansion steps into account in the design of the facility, which enables our customer to achieve the utmost degree of flexibility.”

Fega & Schmitt also relies on the know-how and experience of TGW Logistics in ongoing operations—with a Lifetime Services Onsite package. TGW specialists take care on site to ensure that the system runs reliably and with
