TotalEnergies has opened at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) its first large flagship fast-charging hub with rapid charging stations. For electric trucks there are three charging points and for passenger cars twelve charging points, each with a capacity of up to 400 kilowatts.
Fast charging option at the airport
The charging stations are powered 100 percent by electricity from renewable energy sources, according to the company. Jan Petersen, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Charging Solutions Germany GmbH:
“We are consistently advancing the expansion of our HPC fast-charging network in Germany – with the aim of helping our customers reduce their CO2 emissions. In an
ideal location, directly at BER Airport, we are opening today our first flagship hub, where both electric cars and electrically powered commercial vehicles and trucks can be charged. Whether travelers, taxi drivers or logistics service providers – all of them will find at BER a fast and convenient charging option with optimal transport connections. In doing so, we make an important contribution to the decarbonisation of mobility and delivery traffic around Berlin Airport.”
Space for five-axle vehicles
The new site is located directly on the airport access road at Elly-Beinhorn-Ring. The truck charging station is designed for five-axle vehicles with a gross
vehicle weight of up to 40 tonnes and is intended to provide trucks with sufficient space to maneuver, it says.
At the same time, the charging hub is designed to be accessible and includes, in addition to charging options, further services such as a tire pressure gauge and a vacuum cleaner.
Renewable energies and sustainability played an important role in construction and design, according to TotalEnergies. Thus, the roof of the car charging station is equipped with solar modules whose electricity production feeds into the local charging infrastructure.
