Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks is presenting a wide range of vehicle solutions based on the Unimog, a Mercedes-Benz eActros 400, and a Mercedes-Benz Arocs for municipal applications at this year's Demopark.
Among the 20 displayed Unimog implement carriers are vehicles equipped with mowing machines, irrigation technology, chippers, drain cleaners, sweepers, and winter service equipment like snow plows, spreaders, or snow blowers from various body manufacturers.
In addition, a Unimog U 5023 with a loading crane and self-rescue winch from the highly off-road capable series will be on display in Eisenach. According to the announcement, the vehicles and their functions can be experienced live during the outdoor presentation.
Unimog with Reduced Loading Height
A Unimog U 219 with an especially low loading height of under 1.2 meters will also be introduced. According to the information provided, the loading edge height at the rear is around 20 centimeters lower than the previous loading height of the production Unimog.
This is made possible by the factory-lowering of the chassis and
an appropriate wheel-tire combination. Additionally, a smaller subframe is mounted, facilitating easier loading and unloading. The vehicle is particularly suitable for use in construction yards and municipalities. The new Unimog U 219 with a flatbed and subframe from the company Eggers Fahrzeugbau GmbH is on display.
Uni-Touch
The new Uni Touch control system is intended to provide more intuitive and comfortable handling of attachments. The center console has been redesigned, conceived as slimmer, and is now adjustable both transversely and longitudinally.
The number of control elements has been compactly reduced - thanks to individual assignability with various functions and the ability to store recurring processes, according to the manufacturer.
Settings for work assignments can be made via touchscreen. The screen is designed to rotate and adjust in inclination. The optional multifunction joystick also features freely assignable controls and can be plugged into the preparation at the driver's seat or passenger seat as desired.
Due to the fixed connection with the suspension seat, the joystick automatically moves
with the seat's up and down motion, allowing the driver to work ergonomically.
Equipment Features
Other elements of the new control system include a start/stop button replacing the classic ignition key of the implement carrier, as well as new door control panels on the driver, passenger, and optional mowing door.
Under the new General Safety Regulation II (GSR), the manufacturer now includes features such as Sideguard Assist, Frontguard Assist, a Traffic Sign Assistant, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure loss warning system as standard.
For Winter and Summer Use
Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks now also offers the eActros for winter service operations on highways. On display is a fully electric eActros 400, which has already been tested for five months in winter service by Autobahn GmbH in Münchberg.
During this period, the vehicle covered over 8,000 kilometers in winter highway maintenance service while plowing and spreading. The eActros 400 is equipped with a 6-cubic-meter spreader for salt and up to 2,640 liters of brine, as well
as a snow plow from Bucher Municipal, which is suitable for large-scale clearing on highways with a plow width of over 4.5 meters.
The equipment variant also offers further application possibilities for summer service as a roll-off system, for example for skip containers, including transporting green waste, mulch, or soil, or for irrigating green spaces.
Also featured at Demopark: an Arocs 2948 with winter service equipment and a 6x4/4 wheel configuration. According to the manufacturer, the vehicle is equipped with permanent front-wheel drive and a steered trailing axle.
Municipal Segment
Daimler Truck announces an organizational advancement: The business unit Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks takes overall responsibility for the complete vehicle portfolio for the municipal, waste collection, fire service, and disaster protection segments.
In this context, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks supports the trusted organization for its own series - Unimog, Econic, and eEconic - specifically also aiding the sales organization for vehicles of the A-series - Actros, eActros, Arocs, eArocs, and Atego - and develops the product portfolio in
