Effective immediately, electrically powered trucks benefit from the removal of the slot-binding at the Hamburg container terminals. This enables haulage companies with a new category in the booking system to book a slot without being bound to a fixed time window.
Electric trucks can be processed flexibly within the booked day. It has taken into account the
special framework conditions and the necessary charging processes for electric trucks, according to HHLA. Jens Hansen, Chief Operating Officer of HHLA:
“With the temporary lifting of the slot binding for electric trucks, we are specifically supporting the switch to climate-friendly drives. Across the HHLA Group, we have been advancing the electrification of our equipment for years across
Europe — with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions and offering our customers sustainable, forward-looking solutions.”
Our own electric trucks in operation
The slot booking system was introduced in 2017 to avoid bottlenecks and to relieve traffic conditions at the Port of Hamburg. Since then, HHLA has continually developed the system in collaboration with partners, it says.
With the temporary lifting of the slot-binding and the deployment of our own electric trucks at the subsidiaries Metrans and CTD, we want to send a clear commitment to promoting sustainable transport solutions. By 2040, HHLA aims to operate climate-neutral across the group. The new regulations should also make it easier for other companies to enter emissions-free
