The tire manufacturer Prometeon Tyre Group has released its latest sustainability report. In it, the company consistently pursues its ESG strategy and outlines how sustainability goals are integrated into operational processes and strategic direction. At the center are the four dimensions of environment, social affairs, governance, and economy.
Goal: Climate Neutrality by 2040
According to its own information, Prometeon aims for complete climate neutrality by 2040. Compared to the base year 2016, the company was already able to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 35.8 percent by 2024—more than the target of 32 percent set for 2030. Electricity consumption was reduced by 13.6 percent in the same period. Further savings goals include reducing energy consumption by 23 percent by 2025 and by 31 percent by 2030.
Renewable Energies
on the Rise
Around 47.8 percent of the electricity used by Prometeon in 2024 comes from renewable sources. The Brazilian site in Gravataí is particularly highlighted, as it is fully operated with regenerative electricity and is already climate-neutral regarding emissions from Scope 1 and 2.
Material and Waste Strategy Expanded
In terms of material usage, the proportion of renewable raw materials is at 33 percent, and recycled materials currently make up 1.89 percent. In the long term, the combined proportion is set to increase to 40 percent by 2030 and to 100 percent by 2050. In waste management, Prometeon achieved a recovery rate of 98.2 percent in 2024, significantly above its target of 97 percent by 2030.
Supply Chain Audit Expanded
The supply chain plays a central role
in Prometeon's sustainability strategy. In 2024, the company conducted 17 audits on suppliers covering 21 percent of the raw material purchase value. Over the next five years, this share is set to increase to 100 percent.
ESG as Part of Corporate Culture
Since 2024, an incentive system has been in place that integrates ESG goals into the performance assessment and remuneration of all employees. Assessment by Morningstar Sustainalytics confirms the ESG commitment: With an ESG risk score of 12.5 ("Low Risk"), Prometeon ranks among the world's top ten companies in the automotive sector and is fifth in the tire sector.
Nicolas Marchi, Head of the Department for Internal Audit, Compliance, Sustainability, and Institutional Relations at Prometeon, stated: "In a market like the tire industry for commercial vehicles, agriculture
and OTR, sustainability is a strategic priority. The integration of ESG criteria into our operating model—including supplier selection, employee well-being, and financial structure—allows us to create value in the ecological, social, and economic context."
Marchi further emphasizes that this brings the company closer to its "Net-Zero 2040" goal while simultaneously driving innovations in materials, processes, and product performance. From both, the tire manufacturer expects market advantages. Sustainability has also become an important factor in attracting talented young people who are increasingly sensitive to these issues.
Reporting Standard and Transparency
The 2024 sustainability report was prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). The GRI guidelines are intended to help companies present their impacts on the environment and society in a transparent and comparable manner.
