The Metrans Deutschland GmbH will become the new shareholder of the Development Agency for Sustainable Freight Transport (EANG) in Hamm. The rail subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) intends to acquire 27 percent of the shares in EANG. This is a clear signal for the further development of the Multi Hub Westfalen, according to the companies.
Expansion into a modern logistics hub
The city of Hamm and Metrans have
already signed a corresponding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and thereby reaffirmed their joint intention to develop the former marshalling yard into a modern logistics hub with European visibility. The site offers ideal conditions for an intermodal terminal with connections to rail, road, and waterways. Peter Kiss, CEO of Metrans:
“Our goal is to develop the Hamm site together with the city as the western hub terminal in our European network. The
site offers great potential as a central hub along the north-south and west-east axes in Europe. In this way we can strengthen the connection of this region to the largest European seaports and economic centers—and at the same time make an important contribution to promoting sustainable freight transport.”
The city of Hamm benefits from its central location with direct east-west and north-south connections as well as proximity to seaports and inland
ports. Marc Herter, Lord Mayor of the City of Hamm:
“With the takeover of the shares by Metrans and the commitment in Hamm, we are setting the course for sustainable growth and new value creation. The Multi Hub Westfalen will become a key node for climate-friendly logistics of the future.”
The Hamm City Council will have the opportunity to approve the planned change of shareholders at its constituting meeting on November
