Strong growth and a steadily increasing volume of orders prompted the supermarket chain Normal to expand its existing Jungheinrich fleet with additional vehicles. By adjusting the warehouse logistics, the customer ensures that the 650 branches in eight countries continue to be supplied as punctually, organized, and reliably as before. The popular Danish company is always looking for the latest technologies to improve internal logistics processes. With the "Jungheinrich POWERLiNE," Normal has found a solution for economic and sustainable 24-hour operation.
More than 100,000 pallets of personal care products find room in Normal A/S’s central warehouse in Hedensted. The state-of-the-art building forms the basis for the delivery of a versatile range of products. Among others, 57 "ETV 216i" reach trucks, 80 "ERE 225i" low lift pallet trucks, 60 "ERD 220i" high lift pallet trucks, and 235 "EKS vertical order pickers" from Jungheinrich ensure the swift transportation of goods. The customer's diverse fleet has now grown from about 150 rental trucks to up to 500 rental and new vehicles.
Normal A/S relies almost exclusively on "Jungheinrich POWERLiNE" equipment in the new warehouse. The lithium-ion vehicles not only provide the highest standards in terms of safety, agility, and ergonomics but also excel in sustainability thanks to highly efficient lithium-ion technology. At the time of the project,
"POWERLiNE" offered the only trucks on the market equipped with space-saving built-in lithium-ion batteries. Thus, the decision was easy for the customer, who appreciates not only the battery technology but also the high flexibility, user-friendliness, and durability of the vehicles.
“The costs may be higher, but the many advantages definitely outweigh that,” says Jesper Dahl, Technical Manager at Normal A/S Denmark.
Reliable On-Site Service
Two permanent Jungheinrich technicians, who are well-versed with the existing fleet, ensure on-site that all devices at Normal A/S always function flawlessly. The proximity to the customer enables excellent service and quick intervention if needed. Technical defects, maintenance, or battery changes can be performed or rectified immediately without disrupting daily operations.
“The service technicians from Jungheinrich are now just as much a part of the organization as any other workforce at Normal,” reports Kenneth Hollmann Oldenborg, Sales Manager at Jungheinrich Denmark.
Flexible Fleet Growth for More Productivity
The secret to the successful collaboration between Jungheinrich and Normal A/S lies primarily in the good personal relationships and a high level of professionalism. From initial consultation to the commissioning of devices and the service, Jungheinrich supports the customer with dedication and expertise.
“We are continuing to grow – and we want to grow with Jungheinrich,” says Jesper Dahl.
To be prepared
for future expansion, the customer wants to invest in more Jungheinrich devices to make its fleet even more efficient and flexible.
The supermarket chain Normal A/S expanded its existing fleet of industrial trucks to up to 500 rental and new vehicles with lithium-ion technology, including vehicles from the "Jungheinrich POWERLiNE." The fleet expansion took place against the backdrop of strong company growth with increasing order volumes. It achieved more flexibility in fleet design, enhanced safety and user-friendliness, and a long-term reduction in operating costs through the use of lithium-ion technology.
Interview with Henrik Bøgelund, Logistics Director of Normal A/S Denmark
Why did you choose vehicles from Jungheinrich for your fleet expansion?
Due to the safety, durability, speed, and user-friendliness of the vehicles. In all parameters, Jungheinrich convinced us more than the competition. Additionally, the TCO values, i.e. the acquisition and operating costs, of the devices are very good, and the service from Jungheinrich is excellent. Throughout the entire Normal group, we are experiencing strong company growth, which means we will need even more devices in the future. We will certainly also obtain these from Jungheinrich, as we are very satisfied with both the quality of the vehicles and the collaboration.
How has your order picking improved with the devices from Jungheinrich?
The vehicle
portfolio from Jungheinrich offers us various devices for every need. Whether long or short distances, pallet trucks, or order pickers – all application cases are covered. We usually have to handle large order volumes in the shortest time. Therefore, it is extremely important for us that the forklifts are ready to use at any time. This advantage is provided by lithium-ion technology. All vehicles are equipped with lithium-ion batteries, allowing us to enjoy high flexibility. The feature for quick interim charging during breaks ensures maximum vehicle availability without downtimes. Additionally, our processes are now safer and more sustainable.
Are you satisfied with the collaboration and would you recommend Jungheinrich?
Our collaboration with Jungheinrich runs perfectly. So far, we have only had good experiences with all the projects we have carried out together. Especially in terms of professionalism and reliability, the working method of Jungheinrich convinces us. We maintain trusting relationships with each other, which simplifies coordination in the project and ensures that we understand each other and quickly know what is needed. Of course, the high quality of the products is also crucial. Thus, for us, there are many good reasons to definitely recommend Jungheinrich as a logistics provider.
