From now on, electrically powered trucks will benefit from the removal of the slot-binding at Hamburg's container terminals. This enables haulage companies with a new category in the booking system to book a slot without being bound to a fixed time window.

Electric trucks can thus be processed flexibly within the booked day. This has taken into

account the special framework conditions and the necessary charging processes for electric trucks, HHLA says. Jens Hansen, Chief Operating Officer of HHLA:

“With the temporary lifting of the slot-binding for electric trucks, we are specifically supporting the switch to climate-friendly drives. Across the HHLA Group, we have been driving the electrification of our equipment across Europe for

years – with the goal of reducing CO2 emissions and offering our customers sustainable, future-oriented solutions.”

The slot booking system was introduced in 2017 to avoid bottlenecks and relieve traffic at the Port of Hamburg. Since then, HHLA has continuously developed the system together with partners, it says.

With the temporary

lifting of the slot-binding as well as the deployment of its own electric trucks at the subsidiary companies Metrans and CTD, HHLA intends to make a clear commitment to promoting sustainable transport solutions. By 2040, HHLA aims to operate climate-neutral across the group. The new regulations should also make it easier for other companies to enter emissions-free
