The biotechnology company Novogenia GmbH and the automation specialist Knapp AG are setting up a new, highly automated logistics center in Hallwang near Salzburg. The facility aims to design the production and worldwide distribution of genetically personalized dietary supplements and cosmetic products efficiently and scalably. Novogenia develops individually tailored health products based on genetic analyses. The new center is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026. The goal is a daily shipping capacity of up to 8,000 packages, corresponding to an annual turnover of about 500 million euros.

Technical Integration of Laboratory, Production, and Logistics

The new center combines three functionally different areas

– genetic laboratory, production, and distribution – into an automated overall system. The heart of the 11,000 square meter facility is a dual-aisle Evo-Shuttle system with triple deep storage. It is complemented by a fleet of autonomous mobile robots that coordinate material flows between production lines. The vertical networking of all levels occurs via existing freight and passenger lifts that have been integrated into the system.

The central control is managed by Knapp AG's software platform “KiSoft One.” This ensures all components are flexibly coordinated with each other.

Customer-specific Products with Short Delivery Times

The logistics concept allows the genetic report, supplement, and cosmetic product

to be produced independently and precisely brought together for packaging. This results in a throughput time of around 20 minutes per order. The company aims to deliver personalized products within five days in the future – significantly faster than the current market norm. The infrastructure is designed to be modularly expandable and to meet the growing demands of international markets.

Market Expansion and New Distribution Channels

Novogenia currently markets its DNA-based health tests primarily through professional circles such as nutritionists, fitness coaches, and alternative practitioners. They offer the tests to their clients. Depending on the scope, costs range from 300 euros for weight reduction programs

to 900 euros for services in the area of elite sports.

Some insurance companies are reportedly reimbursing part of the costs. There are plans to expand sales to drugstores and food retail. The test results are prepared in a comprehensive, layperson-friendly report with nutrition plans and recipe suggestions.
