GXO Logistics, the globally operating contract logistics provider, celebrated the completion of its modern distribution center on September 9 with an opening ceremony in Dorsten. The opening followed the signing of the cooperation agreement with a term of 20 years with Levi Strauss & Co (LS&Co.) last year, GXO Logistics said in a press release on the same day.
In the fully automated facility, the topic of sustainability was placed at the center. The logistics center was built according to the cradle-to-cradle principle (circular economy). The center, which will support Levi Strauss & Co's entire European omnichannel distribution, was certified in Germany according to both LEED and WELL standards.

They expressed gratitude for the work GXO has done to integrate into their operations and profile, and looked forward to continuing to work with them to achieve operational excellence and sustainable growth.
On an area of 70,000 square meters, the fully automated site can process over 10,000 units per hour. Technologies such as telescopic conveyors, carton cutters, miniload systems, shuttle-based outbound flows and ergonomic workstations are used. For the automated packaging, recyclable paper materials are used.
Currently the site has a capacity of
up to 155,000 units per day and employs around 500 employees. By 2026 the capacity is to be increased to 55 million units per year and the number of employees to up to 650.
The facility is characterized by elements such as sustainably sourced concrete, greened walls, solar panels on the building and a planted roof as well as access to charging stations for electric vehicles, a park on the premises and modern recycling facilities. As one of the region's largest employers in Dorsten, GXO is active in the community, for example through initiatives such as the Dorsten 24h Charity Run and a partnership with the Recklinghäuser Werkstätten, which focus on inclusion.
The establishment of the fully automated operation in Dorsten is, according to GXO,
an important step in the contract logistics service provider's multi-year growth strategy in Germany, one of the largest and most important logistics markets in Europe. GXO has expanded its activities in Germany through strategic partnerships with global and national brands from various sectors such as aerospace, e-commerce, fashion and FMCG. The offering of GXO for the German market includes technology-enabled fulfillment solutions at dedicated and multi-user sites with a total area of around 500,000 square meters.
