The bookseller Thalia is expanding its online offering: From now on, customers can not only purchase used books via thalia.de, but also directly sell their own copies to the company. With this, Thalia complements its existing online retail with a purchase service and aims to close the loop between buying and reselling used books. The initiative is part of a commitment to the
circular economy, as the company announced in a press release on August 7.
With the new service, Thalia is responding to the increasing demand for used products, according to its own statements.
"As the leading bookseller, we are the first address for our customers when it comes to books - and this naturally includes used books. With our new online offering, we are
responding to a growing consumer interest in a growing market segment and at the same time making an important contribution to the circular economy,” Roland Kölbl, Managing Director Sales E-Commerce, Marketing & IT, explained in the announcement.
The purchase process is completely online. Via the Thalia app or website, users can scan the ISBN numbers of their books, check which titles are accepted,
download a free shipping label, and send the books via DHL.
After a review by Thalia, the purchase price is paid out in the form of a digital gift card, which according to the company can be redeemed for the entire range in the webshop, in the app, on Tolino e-readers as well as in all branches of Thalia, Mayersche, and Osiander in
