Overall, after a one-year planning and construction period, starting in October three Alpitronic Hyperchargers with a capacity of 400 kW each are to be available on the premises of Spedition Diez, and at each fast-charging station two trucks can draw power simultaneously. In a second expansion phase, which is expected to be planned for 2027, they want to offer up to 15 charging points for complete tractor-trailer combinations at the Solar Truck Charge Port in Dettingen unter Teck in the district of Esslingen, according to the logistics company.
Charging without unhitching
The roughly 2,600 square meter area of the Solar Truck Charge Port should, upon completion, also be passable for trucks without restrictions from pillars. Thus, truck drivers could make a charging stop without first detaching and therefore having to search for a suitable area, it is said. This saves effort such as costs and makes the charging process shorter and more comfortable. Andreas Diez, who shares the management with his brother Matthias Diez:

We have worked very intensively on the conception of our Solar Truck Charge Port and are convinced that it comprehensively takes into account the needs of drivers and entrepreneurs. This charging park is a real game changer and makes charging an electric truck almost as easy as refueling a diesel truck.“
Large cantilevered solar roof
The truck charging park is also to feature, upon completion, the world's largest cantilevered solar roof, according to Diez Spedition. At the same time, drivers and their battery-powered trucks should be protected from wind and weather.
The solar installation was planned in an east-west orientation to better use the sun and thus the electricity in the mornings and evenings and to avoid peak loads at noon, it is said. The solar roof will be carried by a robust steel construction. In addition, the charging park is to be protected on two sides upon completion by a façade made of sustainable and certified larch wood.
The photovoltaic system on the roof has
a peak output of 450 kW and should, in a second step, buffer the self-produced electricity in a battery storage system with a capacity of two MW. An energy management system (EMS) controlled by artificial intelligence should also enable efficient charging.
Pilot site of TruckCharge
The charging park is also one of the pilot locations of Daimler Truck's semi-public charging network TruckCharge. Drivers who charge their truck at Diez Spedition may also use their sanitary facilities and the lounge. Those looking to refresh themselves during the charging break can reach a supermarket and two fast-food restaurants on foot, according to the logistics company.
Well located on major transport arteries
The Truck Charge Port lies directly on the B465 and immediately on the A8 between Stuttgart and Munich. Thus, its proximity to one of Germany's main arterial routes also makes it attractive for other operators of electric trucks. Public charging infrastructure is still being built, and to close the gap, logisticians could help each other by allowing access to their charging stations. Thus, they also invite
other fleet operators to use the charging park. Managing Director Diez:

Two eActros 600 for own fleet
Also in October, the Diez freight forwarding company, which specializes in volume transports under tarpaulins, plans to start in electric mobility themselves and add their first electric trucks to the fleet. These are two Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 models. Five more E-trucks are to follow in the first half of 2026, according to the freight forwarding company.
