In addition to the 4x2-, 6x2-, 6x4-, 8x2- and 8x4-chassis, a factory-built 10x4 FAF chassis for heavy construction applications has now been added to DAF Trucks' portfolio. The manufacturer promises high payload as well as very good maneuverability.
Technical features
Equipped is the five-axle chassis with two leaf-sprung 8- or 9-ton front axles and a 34-ton twin-drive tandem with air suspension. This tandem consists, according to the information, of
a twin-driven tandem axle (with single- or hub-reduction) and a hydraulically steered, liftable trailing axle.
The twin front axles are intended to enable the installation of heavy-duty cranes directly behind the cab. The trailing axle of the tridem is designed for a static load of 26 tonnes – this is suitable, for example, for parking and loading heavy containers, where the full weight temporarily lies almost entirely on the
last axle.
The FAF chassis can be equipped with drivetrains with Paccar MX-11- and MX-13-engines and the automated TraXon transmission. According to the manufacturer, power outputs range from 300 hp (220 kW) to 530 hp (390 kW).
Available as XD and XF versions
The new five-axle truck is available as XD and XF models. Both cabs would be suitable for the intended use, according to the manufacturer. A curved
dashboard, extremely low-set windows and an optional curb-side window are said to provide very good direct visibility around the cab.
And, according to DAF, a good indirect view of the areas in front of, beside and behind the truck is provided by the Digital Vision System's digital cameras, the Corner-View, and the rear-view camera. The new chassis is now available to order through the network of official DAF partners.
