The Wicke GmbH + Co. KG is having an automated central warehouse built by Jungheinrich in Sprockhövel in the southern Ruhr area. With a "significant investment," the manufacturer of industrial wheels, tires, and axles is committing to a state-of-the-art warehouse infrastructure to support its continuous growth, the intralogistics solutions provider Jungheinrich announced on May 13.
The new central warehouse, scheduled for completion in June 2027, covers a base area of more than 3,500 square meters and reaches
a height of 25.5 meters, matching the dimensions of an eight-story high-rise building. It will be complemented by a handling building with integrated social and office spaces, where inbound, outbound, picking, and packaging processes will be carried out on two levels. With a system performance of 150 double cycles per hour, the warehouse offers high throughput capacity for two-shift operation, according to Jungheinrich.
According to the intralogistics company, existing production buildings will be directly connected to the
new warehouse to minimize transport routes and optimize material flows. In a second construction phase, it is also planned to connect another production building.
"This project emphasizes the strategic importance of automated logistics solutions for modern, scalable, and sustainable production supply," said Jungheinrich's sales board member Nadine Despineux.
Jungheinrich is supplying seven storage and retrieval machines for double-deep pallet storage, the complete pallet conveyor technology including PLC and visualization, the silo shelf with roof and wall cladding
as well as the sprinkler system and fire protection doors for the logistics center. In addition, Jungheinrich is integrating its Warehouse Management System (WMS) to control warehouse and material flow processes.
With the comprehensive automation solution from a single source, Jungheinrich confirms its role as Wicke's strategic partner, according to its own statements. As a long-standing supplier of wheels and castors for Jungheinrich industrial trucks, Wicke now benefits itself from the intralogistics expertise of the Hamburg-based company,
