Metzger Autoteile has commissioned Kardex Mlog as the general contractor to build an automatic five-aisle high-bay warehouse with around 6,000 pallet spaces and an "AutoStore" system with around 80,000 boxes. The large-scale project in Filderstadt also includes extensive conveyor technology for pallets and containers, several picking workstations, and the complete control of the entire system through the "Kardex Control Center" warehouse management system, Kardex Mlog announced on May 8. At the customer's request, the software should not only manage the new system components but also completely replace the existing inventory system, according to Kardex Mlog.

According to the announcement, Werner Metzger GmbH currently operates a logistics center

in Filderstadt that is around six years old. It consists of a manual shelving system, a manual pallet warehouse, and an AutoStore warehouse with about 30,000 bins from another provider.

The scope of supply from Kardex Mlog includes, among other things, five automatic storage and retrieval machines of the type "Kardex MSingle A-1000/15-ZT" and a rack system in in-house construction for approximately 5,860 Euro pallets. The additional "AutoStore" system that Kardex is building for Werner Metzger GmbH includes a grid with a capacity of 77,000 containers and will be operated by 30 AutoStore robots of the type Redline R5.

Added to this is the automatic container conveyor

technology with a total length of 160 meters. In addition, Kardex Mlog is constructing an automatic pallet conveyor system with 200 drives, two pallet vertical transfer units, as well as six loading and eight unloading stations. The delivery scope is complemented by a pallet picking workstation for securing supplies to the AutoStore system. The automated logistics systems will be powered by a large photovoltaic system with an output of 500 kWp on the roof of the new building.

In addition to the hardware, Kardex Mlog also supplies the complete software: The "Kardex Control Center" warehouse management system is to manage and two-dimensionally visualize the new pallet high-bay

warehouse, the expanded AutoStore system, as well as several block warehouses, wide-aisle warehouses, and shelving systems.

"With the new logistics center, we can organize the storage and delivery of our products even more efficiently," said Marion Metzger and Isabel Brockmann-Metzger, Managing Directors of Werner Metzger GmbH. "This creates the foundation to sustainably continue our growth and further strengthen our market position in the automotive aftermarket."
