Wihag Fahrzeugbausysteme has introduced a new box kit for light trucks that saves weight and aims to better meet environmental standards. The basis of the system is a specially developed panel made of polypropylene foam with a glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene top layer. The material combination improves the vehicles' CO2 balance and allows for a closed material cycle, the manufacturer announced to the press.

According to the information, the new panel offers an ecological alternative to traditional solutions with

a GRP top layer. The plastic composite is fully recyclable and thus contributes to the circular economy.

"With this material, we are taking a decisive step towards a circular economy and making an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions—both in the production and operation of the vehicles," explained Willi Giesbrecht, the company's managing director, in a press release.

In addition to environmental compatibility, Wihag highlights other advantages of the new product. The low weight of the panels

can reduce fuel consumption. At the same time, the material is particularly impact-resistant and durable. The connection between the core and the top layer also works without adhesives. This not only reduces resource consumption in production but also simplifies later recycling.

Another advantage of the new kit concerns compliance with the EU's CO2 regulations. The reduced vehicle weight positively affects the calculation of Vecto values, which play a role in assessing the CO2 emissions of new commercial

vehicles. For transport companies, this can be a factor in meeting regulatory requirements.

The new box kit is available immediately. The design can be flexibly adapted to different vehicle types. With this, the company aims to offer a solution that is not only focused on sustainability but also on practical usability in daily transport operations.
