The Munich showman Andreas Kunz relies on the new curtain-sided semi-trailer SZS 300 MegaRunner Twin 180 from Fliegl for transporting his ghost train. The two-axle trailer was handed over in Triptis, the company reports. With an interior length of more than 15 meters, the vehicle offers ample space for the components of the world's largest mobile ghost train, which is also on display at the Oktoberfest.
„The payload is of secondary importance to us, but we need the large loading volume and the length,“ explains the showman Kunz.
Practical solutions in detail
The trailer has a permissible gross weight of up to 23,560 kilograms, with an empty weight of 6,440 kilograms. The loading floor is designed for point loads up to 7,100 kilograms. A peculiarity
are the rear uprights, which can be widened on both sides by 40 centimeters. This feature makes loading with large-format components easier and reduces impact damage.
To be able to utilize the full loading height also when loading with forklifts, Fliegl uses a roof arch made of high-strength aluminum. This remains dimensionally stable even at full width. The construction is complemented by the Ecolift-lifting roof, which can be raised by 380 millimeters.
Safety and comfort in daily operation
For securing the cargo, the trailer features pallet stops at intervals of 200 millimeters and a reinforced tarpaulin with sewn-in straps. On the front wall, there is a 140-millimeter-thick crash blocker installed. The trailer thus meets the requirements of Code-XL certification.
Other features include a Load-Lock profile
for lashings, the patented D-Lock door fastener, an I-Lock closure with few moving parts, as well as a pallet box for up to 32 Euro pallets. LED lights on the sides and at the rear improve visibility when maneuvering in the dark.
Efficiency makes the difference
According to the figures, the Megarunner Twin significantly reduces operating costs. Compared with a three-axle vehicle, a semi-trailer with this trailer, under the same load, consumes around three liters less diesel per 100 kilometers. The results were confirmed by a driving comparison conducted by DEKRA.
Also with tolls savings can be achieved: €2,880 less in fees per year than with a three-axle. Over four years, the advantage sums to €11,520. In addition, Fliegl offers ten years of warranty against
frame corrosion.
Production with a green balance
The company also points to its sustainability approach. The site in Triptis has a positive energy balance: Two block heating plants and large-scale photovoltaic installations generate more electricity than is used at the plant. The halls are heated with wood chips and waste wood. Also in the production processes Fliegl relies on resource-saving technology, for example in painting facilities, welding processes and laser systems.
In trailer construction itself, lightweight design plays an important role. Thus, the vehicle weight is reduced, which improves payload and CO2-balance. Aerodynamic systems such as Quick Lock on curtain trailers or special shapes on tipper trailers also contribute to lowering fuel consumption. For this comprehensive approach, the company received the German Sustainability Award in
