Today, a special conference train is traveling from the island of Rügen to the federal capital. On board are representatives from politics, administration, business, and civil society.

The aim is an exchange with members of the federal government, the budget committee, and the Federal Ministry of Transport about the urgently needed expansion of the Vorpommern Magistrale and thus the rail connection between Berlin, Angermünde, Stralsund, Sassnitz, and Mukran. Representatives of Mukran Port are also on the train and present

at the discussions in Berlin.

Infrastructure decides future opportunitiesHenry Forster, Managing Director of Mukran Ports:

“The Vorpommern Magistrale is a crucial lever for Mukran Port – both for international cargo handling and for the tourist development of the island of Rügen. A powerful, electrified rail connection provides the basis for competitive, sustainable port development and strengthens the entire Vorpommern economic area.”

According to its own statements, Mukran Port is increasingly developing into a multimodal logistics location. In addition to

established ferry connections to Scandinavia, rail freight traffic towards Central and Eastern Europe as well as Central Asia is gaining importance. Therefore, the expansion of the Vorpommern Magistrale is imperative to handle traffic more efficiently, faster, and in an environmentally friendly manner, it is said.

In the tourism sector, too, the improved rail connection would be a milestone for the island of Rügen. Faster, direct connections between Berlin and Rügen would make climate-friendly travel more attractive.

Signal to the

federal governmentWith today’s special train, the participants want to set a joint signal. The region stands united behind the project and now the federal government is called upon, according to the participants. Forster:
