Recently, a smart parcel station has been set up in front of the Metropol parking garage in Tübingen. With this, the Tübingen public utilities aim to enhance the parking garage location on Reutlinger Street and simultaneously explore new paths in urban logistics. In cooperation with Myflexbox Germany, they have installed a station accessible 24/7, the public utilities announced. This allows packages to be picked up, sent, or returned – regardless of opening hours and delivery times.
"The Myflexbox right in front of the Metropol parking garage provides real added value for our users," says Alessandra Veit, Head
of Urban Mobility at the Tübingen public utilities with conviction. "Those who park here can now conveniently and flexibly have orders from Tübingen retail or other online shops delivered almost directly to the trunk – completely independent of opening hours or delivery dates."
For the public utilities, the parcel station is more than an additional service: it exemplifies the connection between mobility and urban supply.
Myflexbox also sees the cooperation as a forward-looking model.
"With this Myflexbox, the Tübingen public utilities demonstrate how modern infrastructure, urban mobility, and smart logistics can perfectly interplay," says Jonathan Grothaus, CEO
and founder of the company. "Especially in combination with parking options, true one-stop shopping emerges here – practical, sustainable, and citizen-friendly."
The station is connected with package delivery services like UPS, DPD, GLS, and FedEx. Only a free registration is required for use. Recipients receive a pickup code via SMS or email. A fee is charged only from the 21st shipment onwards. The compartments are available in three sizes and suitable for different types of shipments.
Local retailers also benefit: They can deposit their goods in the station, enabling pickup outside their own opening hours – entirely
without having their own online shop. This opens up a straightforward entry into hybrid sales models.
Besides the comfort aspect, the public utilities also emphasize the ecological impact of the offering. Central delivery addresses shorten delivery routes, saving CO2 and reducing inner-city delivery traffic.
The partnership with Myflexbox is set for an indefinite period. More stations on public utility areas are already in planning.
Myflexbox operates the largest provider-open parcel station network in Germany and Austria, currently with over 1,100 stations in more than 300 cities. The company's goal is to make urban logistics more efficient, sustainable,
